Our Story
Like most great stories, it all started with a washing machine…
Like most great stories, it all started with a washing machine…
In the early 70s, the residents of Matilda house realised something: The future had arrived and they had washing machines - they had no more need for their communal laundrette!
With an amazing effort of community collaboration, they decided to turn that unwanted laundry room into a place where they could collectively look after each other's youngsters.
After converting the building, the parents setup a weekly rota and the ancestor of Matilda Community Nursery was born!

As a parent of a child at Matilda, you will automatically have a say in how the nursery is ran - with the option to put yourself forward as a board or committee member - and will become part of our story.
